Cultural and Creative Arts 2024 Theory — Question 1

PAPER III - PRACTICAL Draw and paint a football and a boot beside it as placed before you. Media: Poster colour / Water colour Note: To avoid smudging, your painting work must be dried before packaging.

Model answer

1. Arrange the football and the boot side by side and study their shapes, proportions and the light falling on them. 2. Lightly sketch both objects with a soft pencil (HB): draw a circle for the football and a larger oval for the boot, keeping the football's size in correct proportion to the boot. 3. Draw the details of the football (the pentagon and hexagon patches that cover its surface) and the details of the boot (the sole, studs, laces, tongue and ankle opening). 4. Show the position of the light source and mark the shadow areas lightly. Rub out unwanted construction lines. 5. Mix the poster or water colours on the palette. Paint the football (white with black patches) and the boot (use the true colours of the boot, e.g. black or brown with a lighter sole). 6. Apply the colour evenly with a brush. Do not overload the brush, and let one colour dry before painting beside it so that colours do not run into each other. 7. Add tones: darker colour on the shadow side and lighter on the lit side to give the objects a rounded look. Add a cast shadow beneath each object. 8. Leave the painting to dry completely before packaging so that it does not smudge, write your name and examination number at the back, and submit.
