Model answer

A BIRTHDAY PARTY I ATTENDED Last Saturday, I attended the tenth birthday party of my cousin, Ada. The party took place in her parents' compound at Surulere and I looked forward to it all week. Ada is the daughter of my mother's younger sister. We are not only cousins but also close friends. We attend the same school and we often do our homework together, so I was among the first guests she invited. The compound was decorated with colourful balloons and ribbons. A large cake with ten candles stood on the table in the middle. At exactly three o'clock, the guests sang "Happy Birthday" and Ada blew out the candles. She cut the cake and shared the first slice with her parents. The guests were then served jollof rice, fried chicken, salad and cold drinks. After eating, I took part in several games. I joined the musical chairs and the sack race, and I came second in the sack race. Later, a magician entertained us with tricks, and we danced to lively music. Ada also opened her gifts in front of everyone and thanked each of us. The party ended at about seven o'clock. Each guest went home with a small gift pack. I thanked my aunt and uncle for the lovely day. In all, it was one of the happiest days I have ever had. I look forward to Ada's next birthday.

14, Market Road, Government Secondary School, Ikeja, Lagos. 12th October, 2023. Dear Kunle, I hope this letter meets you in good health and in high spirits. How is your family? Please give my regards to your parents and your younger sister. We were all sad to hear that you have been sick and unable to come to school. How is your health now? I hope the doctor's treatment is helping and that you are getting better each day. Please take your drugs on time, eat well and rest. The whole class prays for your quick recovery. Let me tell you what has been happening in school since you left. First, our Mathematics teacher has finished the topic on algebra and we wrote a test last week. I will lend you my notes so that you can catch up. Second, the inter-house sports competition took place on Friday. Our house, Blue House, came second, and I won the 100 metres race. Third, the principal announced that the Junior WAEC (BECE) registration will start next month, so you should tell your parents. Finally, the class prefect has asked me to tell you that your name is still on the class list and everyone misses you. Please get well soon and return to school. I look forward to seeing you. Your friend, Emeka.
