The Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination is a major part of gaining admission into a Nigerian tertiary institution. Practising past questions helps you get familiar with question styles, improve your speed, and find the subjects that need more work.

How the UTME paper is built
JAMB’s 2026 official training manual specifies that UTME consists of Use of English plus three subjects chosen by the candidate. Use of English contains 60 multiple-choice questions and each of the other three contains 40, giving 180 questions in total, taken in two hours.
That works out at roughly forty seconds per question including reading time — which is why UTME preparation has to build speed alongside knowledge. A method you can only execute in three minutes is not a method you can use on the day.
Plan across all four subjects
Use of English is a third of your paper on its own, and your other three subjects make up the rest. Spending most of your preparation on your favourite subject is the most common and most expensive mistake in UTME preparation.
Practise the way you will sit it
- Work through complete sets under a timer, not just individual questions.
- Practise eliminating clearly wrong options quickly.
- Get comfortable leaving a stalled question and returning to it.
- Review the questions you guessed correctly — a lucky guess is still a gap.
