PASSAGE II (Amaka) The thick cloud that hung over the sky of Wukari was so palpable that it could be held with bare hand. Birds made tweeting sounds, as a gentle breeze spurred trees to dance to the melodious sound of the flying choristers. The clock hanging on the wall in Amaka's room was showing 12:10 a.m. As she sat on her bed, tears streamed down her cheeks. "Young lady, you are three weeks pregnant," resounded in her ears. These were the exact words of the doctor who handed over the result of a pregnancy test to her. Amaka had fallen prey to the deception of Jackson, an SS3 student in her school. It all happened one evening after school preparation class when she yielded to the sexual advances of Jackson in an unroofed building beside their school. As she sat on her bed engrossed in deep thought, Amaka felt the weight of the world hanging on her shoulders. She recalled how her maternal uncle had adopted her after the death of her parents in an automobile accident; how he sheltered her, clothed her as well as saw her through primary, junior secondary, now, senior secondary school. By the afternoon of the next day, it was discovered that Amaka had vanished like the ring-like wind that blows during the harmattan season. A note was placed on her English textbook that read, "Uncle, forgive me for disappointing you". [Passage II] According to the passage, Amaka was ____.
- A. a chorister
- B. a rude girl
- C. an orphanCorrect
- D. forgiven by her uncle
Explanation
Her parents died in an automobile accident and her uncle adopted her, so she was an orphan.
