(a) Find the values of x, y and z in the figure below:
(b) Calculate the mean of the data below, correct to one decimal place.

Score (x): 9, 10, 12, 13, 15
f: 3, 5, 2, 2, 3

Accepted Answer

(a) y = 180° - (30° + 64°) = 86° (angles on a straight line).
x = 180° - 135° = 45° (angles on a straight line).
z = 180° - (86° + 45°) = 49° (angles in a triangle).

(b) Σfx = (9x3) + (10x5) + (12x2) + (13x2) + (15x3) = 27 + 50 + 24 + 26 + 45 = 172
Σf = 3 + 5 + 2 + 2 + 3 = 15
Mean = 172 ÷ 15 = 11.47 = 11.5 (1 d.p.)
