Explanation

White blood cells are of two major types: granulocytes and agranulocytes. The agranulocytes are subdivided into monocytes and lymphocytes. Lymphocytes are the main active component of the adaptive immune system and produce antibodies which protect the body from pathogens. Monocytes defend the body by engulfing harmful microorganisms.
