Resolve 3/(x²+x-2) into partial fractions

  • A. 1/(x-1) - 1/(x+2)Correct
  • B. 1/(x-1) + 1/(x+2)
  • C. 1/(x+1) - 1/(x-2)
  • D. 1/(x-1) + 1/(x-2)

Explanation

x²+x−2=(x−1)(x+2). Setting 3/[(x−1)(x+2)] = A/(x−1)+B/(x+2) and solving gives A=1, B=−1, i.e. 1/(x−1) − 1/(x+2).
