(James 1:22-27, 2:14-26) James advised the Christians to live according to the word of the Lord which they had heard, not merely to hear it and fail to put it into practice; he said that anyone who is a hearer and not a doer is like someone who looks in a mirror and immediately forgets what he looks like; James taught that faith must be combined with practical works to produce the desired result; he said faith without works is useless and dead; according to James, faith is justified by works, as seen in Abraham who believed God and was called God's friend, and Rahab the prostitute who was justified by her works when she helped the messengers of Joshua and sent them out another way; a person is therefore justified by works and not by faith alone.
