5.(a) Narrate the events that led to the statement 'This is my beloved Son with whom I am well pleased.'
Model answer
Matthew 3:13-17, Mark 1:9-11, Luke 3:21-22. Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John the Baptist. John, recognising Jesus as the Messiah, hesitated to baptize Him, questioning why Jesus, who was greater, would come to him. Jesus insisted, saying it was necessary to fulfil all righteousness, so John agreed. As Jesus came up out of the water, the heavens opened, the Spirit of God descended on Him like a dove, and a voice from heaven declared, 'This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.' This event confirmed Jesus as the Messiah and the Son of God, marking the beginning of His public ministry.
