2(a) Recount how the supremacy of God was made manifest during the contest on Mount Carmel. (1 Kings 18:17-46)

1. King Ahab and Jezebel attempted to establish the worship of Baal as the state religion in Israel. 2. This provoked God's anger and inspired Elijah to champion the cause of the worship of Yahweh. 3. Elijah pronounced a drought for three and a half years and later organized a contest on Mount Carmel to establish God's supremacy. 4. Elijah, through Ahab, gathered all the Israelites at Mount Carmel to determine the true God, Baal or Yahweh. 5. Elijah charged the people not to waver between two opinions but to choose either Baal or Yahweh. 6. He challenged the 450 prophets of Baal to prepare a bull and call on Baal to consume it with fire; Yahweh answered by fire, proving His supremacy.
