The point P(-3,5) lies on a line which is perpendicular to 2x - 4y + 3 = 0. Find the equation of the line.

  • A. y-2x-11=0
  • B. y-2x-1=0
  • C. y+2x+1=0Correct
  • D. y+2x+11=0

Explanation

From 2x-4y+3=0, y=(1/2)x+3/4, so gradient m1=1/2. For perpendicular lines m1*m2=-1, so m2=-2. Using y-y1=m(x-x1) with (-3,5): y-5=-2(x+3) => y-5=-2x-6 => y+2x+1=0.
