1. If 5/sqrt(2) - sqrt(8)/8 = m*sqrt(2), find the value of m.

  • A. 12/5
  • B. 9/4Correct
  • C. 7/3
  • D. 5/2

Explanation

5/sqrt(2) - sqrt(8)/8 = m*sqrt(2). Rationalising: (5/sqrt(2) x sqrt(2)/sqrt(2)) - (sqrt(4x2)/8) = m*sqrt(2) => 5sqrt(2)/2 - 2sqrt(2)/8 = m*sqrt(2) => (5/2 - 1/4)sqrt(2) = m*sqrt(2) => 9/4 sqrt(2) = m*sqrt(2). Thus m = 9/4.
