Explanation

The policy of assimilation was adopted by France in her colonies in West Africa to inculcate Africans with French culture and ways of life, essentially to make Frenchmen out of Africans. However, the policy did not achieve its objective because it was difficult for Africans to forget their indigenous culture, hence their refusal to be culturally colonized through the policy of assimilation.
