10(c)(i). Copy the diagram (single slit diffraction, wide opening) in your answer booklet. (ii) On the copied diagram, sketch the pattern of the waves immediately after passing through the opening.
Model answer
When the width of the aperture (slit) is much greater than the wavelength of the incident wave, diffraction is minimal - the waves emerge from the wide opening almost unchanged, continuing to travel nearly in straight lines with only slight spreading at the edges.
