PAPER III - COMPUTER STUDIES PRACTICAL
Instructions: (i) Use computer system to answer the question. (ii) You are required to print out the hard copy(ies) of your work. (iii) No content of the candidates' work should be the same.
Using CorelDraw, reproduce the student card with Calibri typeface and font point 24 throughout except otherwise stated.
Application:
i. Using font point 36, format "Student Information" as Personal Information in uppercase and embolden.
ii. Key in your full name in the space provided for "NAME" in upper case.
iii. Key in your registration number in the space provided "REG NO".
iv. For "ADDRESS (HOME)", supply your home address in the space provided and italicize it.
v. Input your date of birth in the space marked "DD MM YYYY" as follows: DD for day, MM for month and YYYY for year.
vi. Replace the "***" in the signature box with the first five digits of your registration number.
vii. Type in any valid email address to replace "princemoyee4life@yahoo.com".
viii. Print out your work in landscape orientation.
Model answer
1. Open CorelDraw and create a new document. Set the page orientation to Landscape.
2. Draw the large outer rectangle (Rectangle tool) and the inner boxes: the NAME box, the REG NO row of 11 small boxes, the DOB boxes (2 for DD, 2 for MM, 4 for YYYY) and the SIGNATURE box. Draw the lines for ADDRESS (HOME).
3. Set the Text tool to Calibri, 24 pt, and type the labels NAME:, REG NO., ADDRESS (HOME):, DATE OF BIRTH:, SIGNATURE:, and the email line.
4. Type STUDENT INFORMATION in uppercase (as PERSONAL INFORMATION heading), select it, set the size to 36 pt and apply Bold.
5. Type your full name in capital letters in the NAME box.
6. Type the registration number into the REG NO boxes, one character per box.
7. Type your home address on the address lines and press Ctrl + I to italicize it.
8. Type the day (DD), month (MM) and year (YYYY) of birth in the DOB boxes.
9. Replace *** in the signature box with the first five digits of your registration number.
10. Replace the sample email with your own valid email address.
11. Choose File > Print, make sure the orientation is Landscape, and print the hard copy.
PAPER IV - TECHNICAL DRAWING
Instructions: (i) Answer all questions. (ii) Use the necessary drawing instruments and materials. (iii) All dimensions are in millimeters (mm). (iv) Marks will be awarded for good draughtmanship. (v) Show all the construction lines.
1(a) On the sheet provided, draw the borderlines and a title block with the following information: (i) Your name (ii) School name (iii) Examination number (iv) Scale used (v) Date.
Model answer
1. Draw the border lines about 10 mm inside the edges of the sheet using a T-square and set square (a thicker line for the border).
2. At the bottom right of the sheet, draw a rectangular title block (for example 120 mm x 40 mm) with the T-square and set square.
3. Divide the title block with thin lines into five rows or boxes.
4. Neatly letter, in capital letters, the five items:
NAME: your full name
SCHOOL: your school name
EXAM NO: your examination number
SCALE: the scale used (for example 1:1)
DATE: the date of the examination
5. Keep all lettering the same height and use a sharp pencil for clean, even lines.
1(b)(i) Draw line AB = 120 mm and construct an angle of 30° at point A.
Model answer
1. Draw the line AB = 120 mm.
2. With the compasses centre at A and any convenient radius, draw an arc that cuts AB at P.
3. With the same radius and centre P, draw an arc to cut the first arc at Q. Angle QAB = 60°.
4. With centres P and Q and the same radius (more than half PQ), draw two arcs that cross at R.
5. Join A to R and extend it. Angle RAB = 30° (the bisector of the 60° angle).
6. Show all construction arcs and label the angle 30°.
1(b)(ii) Draw an equilateral triangle ABC of sides 60 mm. At C, draw line CD perpendicular to AB and measure the length CD.
Model answer
1. Draw AB = 60 mm.
2. With centre A and radius 60 mm, draw an arc above AB.
3. With centre B and the same radius, draw another arc to cut the first at C. Join AC and BC. Triangle ABC is equilateral.
4. At C construct a perpendicular to AB: with centre C and any radius, cut AB at two points; from each of these points, with a larger radius, draw arcs that cross below AB; join C to the crossing point so that it cuts AB at D.
5. D is the midpoint of AB (AD = 30 mm).
6. Measure CD. By calculation: CD = √(60² - 30²) = √2700 = 51.96 mm, so CD is about 52 mm.
