Model answer (short story): Once upon a time in a small village nestled between the hills, there lived a kind-hearted and hardworking farmer named Boye. He had a small piece of land where he toiled day in and day out, hoping for a bountiful harvest. Unfortunately, due to the unpredictable weather, his crops were often affected, leaving him with meagre yields. One particularly harsh year, a severe drought struck the village. The scorching sun parched the fields, and the crops withered away, leaving the villagers in distress. Boye's heart sank as he saw his hard work go in vain, and he feared that his family would go hungry. One day, as Boye was returning home after a tiring day of work, he noticed a beggar sitting under a tree near his humble abode. The beggar looked weak and famished, and his eyes pleaded for help. Moved by compassion, Boye approached the beggar and offered him some water and a small piece of bread that he had saved for his own consumption. "Thank you, kind sir," the beggar said, tears welling up in his eyes. "You have no idea how much this means to me. I have been wandering for days, searching for food, and you are the first person to offer me anything." Boye smiled warmly and replied, "It is my pleasure to share what little I have. In times of hardship, a small act of kindness can make a big difference." From that day onwards, the beggar became a frequent visitor to Boye's home. Each evening, he would share his tales of adventure and wisdom with Boye and his family. In return, Boye would always ensure that the beggar had a meal and a place to rest. One evening, the beggar shared a story that left a profound impact on Boye. He spoke of a king who was known for his generosity and benevolence. The king had a treasure trove of wealth, yet he would always find joy in sharing it with those in need. Moved by the story, Boye confided in the beggar about his worries regarding the meagre harvest and the approaching scarcity of food for his family. The beggar listened attentively and smiled reassuringly. "Boye, my friend," the beggar said, "sometimes, life presents us with challenges and difficulties that seem insurmountable. But remember, half a loaf is better than none. Even in times of scarcity, your act of sharing with me has brought immense joy and blessings to both of us. Your heart is filled with kindness and compassion, and that is a treasure far greater than any material wealth." Over time, the drought subsided, and the village saw a gradual return of normalcy. Boye's crops improved, though they were still not as abundant as he had hoped. However, he had learned a valuable lesson from the beggar's wisdom. He continued to share what he had with others in need, and he found happiness in the little joys of life. As the years passed, Boye's small acts of kindness rippled through the village, inspiring others to help those in need. The village became known for its compassionate and caring community. And so, the saying "half a loaf is better than none" found its true meaning in the life of Boye. His journey taught him that even in times of scarcity, sharing and caring for others can enrich one's life beyond measure, and it is the simple act of kindness that can bring abundance to the soul.
