Model answer
i. Serving as a watchdog: The mass media monitors government actions, ensuring transparency and accountability in democratic governance. ii. Bridging the social divide: Media helps to connect different segments of society by providing equal access to information and encouraging dialogue among diverse groups. iii. Giving voice to the marginalised/protecting minority interest: Media platforms offer marginalized and minority groups the opportunity to express their concerns and interests, ensuring their representation in the democratic process. iv. Exposing corruption: Investigative journalism uncovers and reports on corrupt practices within the government, promoting integrity and accountability. v. Informing citizens/information dissemination: The media disseminates accurate and timely information to the public, keeping citizens informed about government policies, decisions, and events. (Also acceptable: providing political education, serving as a platform for dissent, agenda-setting, protecting the rights of the people, countering propaganda/disinformation, promoting civic engagement, serving as the fourth estate of the realm, promoting political socialization, checking abuse of power.)
