4(a) 'Behold, while the child was yet alive, we spoke to him and he did not listen...' Recount the incident that led to the above statement. (2 Samuel 12:15-25)

1. David's adulterous relationship with Bathsheba resulted in the birth of a child. 2. God sent the prophet Nathan to tell David that, because of his sin, the child would die. 3. The child fell sick, and David fasted and lay on the ground pleading with God through the night. 4. David's servants tried but failed to get him to rise and eat. 5. On the seventh day, the child died, but the servants were afraid to tell David, fearing he might harm himself. 6. When David noticed his servants whispering, he realised the child was dead, and he then rose, washed, worshipped, and ate. 7. His servants were amazed, and David explained that he had fasted while the child lived, hoping God would be gracious, but now that the child was dead, fasting could no longer bring him back.
