Model answer
1. Presence of a down-warped or syncline basin/depression. 2. A layer of permeable rock (aquifer) lying between two layers of impermeable rock. 3. One or both ends of the permeable layer exposed at the surface to allow water to enter. 4. Sufficient rainfall at the exposed end, with water saturated in the permeable layer to build up hydrostatic pressure.
