A flood plain is found in the lower course of a river, on both sides/banks, and is a feature of river deposition. It forms an extensive, gently sloping land covered by alluvium, with a flat valley floor bounded by a bluff. It is usually low-lying, flat and broad, becomes flooded when the river overflows its banks, and is often poorly drained with features such as deltas, ox-bow lakes, levees and meanders, and supports vegetation.
