2. A tennis ball projected at an angle θ attains a range R=78m. If the velocity imparted to the ball by the racket is 30ms⁻¹, calculate θ. [g=10ms⁻²]

Model answer

R = u²sin2θ/g 78 = 30²sin2θ/10 = 90sin2θ sin2θ = 78/90 = 0.867 2θ = 60.1° (or 119.9°) θ ≈ 30° (or equivalently θ ≈ 60°, the complementary angle giving the same range)
