1. The diagram below illustrates the trajectory of a fired missile from point P at 250ms⁻¹, launched at an angle to the horizontal. If the missile hits point Q after 40s, calculate the distance |PQ|.

Accepted Answer

Given: Time of flight, T=40s, u=250m/s, θ=42° (angle of projection).
Distance |PQ| = range of projection = uₓT, where uₓ=u cosθ.
|PQ| = u cosθ × T = 250 cos42° × 40 = 7431 m.
