Properties of an intrinsic semiconductor: - They are tetravalent, i.e. they have four valence electrons (Group IV elements). - They have thermally generated charge carriers. - They have an equal number of charge carriers, i.e. number of holes = number of electrons. - They are pure, i.e. they contain no impurities. - They have low electrical conductivity.
