48. Water is readily available, but it is not a thermometric liquid mainly because it A.

  • A. clings to glass.
  • B. does not expand uniformly.Correct
  • C. pand uniformly at low temperature.
  • D. is colourless.

Explanation

All the points given are reasons why water is not a good thermometric liquid but the lack of uniform expansion is the most critical. Water has an anomalous behaviour, particularly near its freezing point, where it actually contracts upon heating until it reaches 4 deg C and then expands. This non-linear expansion makes it difficult to correlate temperature changes with volume changes accurately.
