Paper 2, Section B 4(b): Identify four factors that affect the distribution of rainfall in Nigeria.

Model answer

1. Latitude/distance from the Equator — rainfall decreases northwards. 2. Movement of the Inter-Tropical Discontinuity (ITD) — seasonal migration controls the rainy season. 3. Distance from the coast/continentality — coastal areas get more rainfall from Atlantic moisture. 4. Altitude and relief — higher elevations generally receive more rainfall; prevailing winds also influence rainfall patterns.
