If x+0.4y=3 and y=½x, find the value of (x+y).

Explanation
Substituting y=½x into x+0.4y=3: x+0.4(½x)=3 ⇒ x+0.2x=3 ⇒ 1.2x=3 ⇒ x=2.5. Then y=½(2.5)=1.25. x+y = 2.5+1.25 = 3.75 = 3¾.
