If x+y=2y−x+1=5, find the value of x.

Explanation
From x+y=5 (i) and 2y−x+1=5 i.e. 2y−x=4 (ii). Multiply (i) by 2: 2x+2y=10 (iii). Subtract (ii) from (iii): 3x=6, x=2.
